Fundraiser

Every year over 60 donation jars are distributed to participating downtown businesses. Throughout the holiday season, your generosity fills them up and helps make our fundraiser the success it is. So when you see the jars at your favorite shops and restaurants in town don’t forget to drop a little something in them!

The Chocolate Station

Located just outside of the Main Mall from 3 to 8pm sample the best cup of hot chocolate you’ve ever had while meeting the people that power Volunteers of America. VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA SOUTHWEST SAFEHOUSE

Each day the Southwest Safehouse provides a safe haven, clothing, food and life skills counseling to women and children in desperate need. The Safehouse has a long standing policy of never turning anyone away even if we are full. Sometimes that has meant we house families in the playroom and living room.

The Southwest Safehouse is a 24-hour intake/7 days a week shelter with 24 hour telephone crisis intervention. The Safehouse offers 3 meals a day, medical, legal and permanent housing referrals, task oriented counseling, individual assistance with goal setting, evening educational modules on parenting and life skills as well as children’s programs.

The Safehouse is in a confidential location within La Plata County and serves the counties of La Plata, Archuleta, Montezuma, Dolores and San Juan. However, no one is refused services because of residency.

The Safehouse has a capacity of 26 women and children. This facility is handicap accessible.

The clients contribute to the shelter by doing a daily chore, keeping their individual space clean, and paying weekly rent when on extended-stay program.
